Caring for the whole child
How Psychotherapy Complements Our Work
Tayler, psychotherapist
At Elemenoe, we’re always asking: Why do we do what we do? Why do we lean into tough conversations, try new strategies, and show up every day for the families we serve?
The answer is simple, but powerful: because real growth happens in safe, supportive relationships, and that’s what we’re here to build.
That’s why we’re so excited to offer psychotherapy as part of our multidisciplinary care. If you're already familiar with services like ABA or speech therapy, you might be wondering where psychotherapy fits in.
How Is Psychotherapy Different from ABA?
ABA focuses on skill-building through structured, evidence-based teaching. It helps individuals learn, practice, and generalize new skills across different settings. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, supports emotional processing, self-awareness, and mental wellness. Together, they can offer a more holistic path forward. Psychotherapy is insight-building. It’s about exploring emotions, managing distress, and developing flexibility, perseverance, independence and internal resilience.
What Is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a wellness-focused, neurodiversity-affirming approach that nurtures the whole person. It helps kids and families process emotions, build coping skills, and embrace their unique strengths and challenges.
At Elemenoe, we’re thrilled to have Tayler, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), on our team. Tayler brings warmth, creativity, and evidence-based strategies to her work with families, caregivers, and youth.
Her sessions often draw from:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Narrative Therapy
These approaches support self-compassion, emotional flexibility, and values-based decision-making, which is especially helpful for autistic children or those navigating stress, identity development, or big emotions.
For kids who communicate differently, sessions may include drawing, storytelling, visuals, play, or movement. The goal is never to “fix” a child, but to help them feel seen, heard, and supported as they grow.
Psychotherapy can help with:
Anxiety and emotional regulation
Life transitions
Identity exploration
Grief, loss, or trauma
Parenting stress
Compassion fatigue and burnout
Sibling dynamics and family relationships
Support for Parents and Caregivers
Psychotherapy isn’t just for children. Parents and caregivers can benefit, too.
Tayler offers a supportive space for caregivers to reflect, reset, and build practical tools, especially when stress, overwhelm, or burnout start to take hold. Many parents find that caring for their own emotional well-being deepens their connection with their child and helps the whole family thrive.
Now Funded Through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP)
Families receiving OAP funding can now use their budget to access psychotherapy at Elemenoe. Whether your child is already in one of our programs, or you're simply seeking mental health support from someone who truly understands neurodiversity, we’re here to help.
Mental Health Is Everyday Health
We believe mental health isn’t something to “fix,” it’s something to care for, just like brushing our teeth or stretching our bodies. It’s part of being human.
Psychotherapy is one more way we help children and families feel understood, empowered, and supported. If you’re curious about how therapy might fit into your child’s care - or your own - we’d love to connect.
