Families with children who have severe disabilities often face numerous challenges, from trying to navigate various service options, coordinate various therapies and accessing funding to help financially. Ontario offers a range of community resources aimed at providing assistance and improving the quality of life for children with disabilities and their families.

Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL) Card - Waterloo Region:

  • The Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL) Card program, offered in the Waterloo Region, provides individuals with disabilities access to free admission for a support person at participating leisure facilities. This program aims to promote inclusion and accessibility, allowing individuals with disabilities to participate fully in recreational activities.

Special Services at Home (SSAH):

  • The Special Services at Home program provides funding to families of children with developmental or physical disabilities to help cover the costs of respite care, in-home support, and other services. This program offers flexible funding to meet the unique needs of each family, providing valuable support to caregivers.

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD):

  • The Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities program, offered through the Ontario government's Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, provides financial assistance to families caring for children with severe disabilities. This support helps cover the costs of essential services and equipment needed to enhance the child's well-being and quality of life.

Assistive Devices Program (ADP):

  • The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) assists individuals with disabilities in accessing necessary assistive devices, such as communication or medical devices. Administered by the Ontario Ministry of Health, this program helps alleviate the financial burden associated with acquiring essential assistive technology.

Complex Special Needs (CSN):

  • The Complex Special Needs program offers support and resources for children and youth with complex medical needs or disabilities. Through this program, families can access specialized services and assistance tailored to their child's unique needs, helping them navigate the complex healthcare system more effectively.

Disability Tax Credit (DTC):

  • The Disability Tax Credit (DTC) provides tax relief to individuals with disabilities or their supporting family members. Eligible individuals can claim this credit to reduce the amount of income tax they owe, providing additional financial support to families caring for children with disabilities. Families need a signed letter supporting their application for DTC which Elemenoe is able to assist with.

Easter Seals Access2 Entertainment Card and Equipment Grant Programs:

  • Easter Seals Ontario offers various programs and services to support children and youth with disabilities and their families. The Access2 Card provides individuals with disabilities access to participating entertainment venues across Canada at a reduced rate, while the Equipment and Incontinence Supplies Grant Programs help families access necessary medical equipment and supplies.

Get Ready for School | Strong Start Program - Waterloo Region:

  • The Get Ready for School program, offered through Strong Start, provides support and resources to families of children with disabilities or developmental delays. This program focuses on early intervention and school readiness, helping children with disabilities thrive academically and socially.
